Former Trump campaign lawyer Jenna Ellis pleads guilty in Georgia case

Former Trump campaign lawyer Jenna Ellis pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal solicitation to commit election fraud on Wednesday, August 4th, 2023, in a Georgia court. The charge stems from her efforts to pressure Fulton County election officials to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.

Ellis was one of several Trump campaign lawyers who engaged in a coordinated effort to overturn the election results in Georgia. The lawyers sent letters to election officials making false claims about widespread voter fraud and demanding that they change the results of the election.

Ellis also participated in a meeting with election officials in Fulton County in December 2020, where she and other Trump campaign lawyers pressured the officials to overturn the results of the election. During the meeting, Ellis and the other lawyers made false claims about voter fraud and threatened to sue the election officials if they did not change the results of the election.

Ellis's guilty plea is a significant victory for the Fulton County District Attorney's Office, which is investigating the Trump campaign's efforts to overturn the election results in Georgia. The guilty plea also shows that the Trump campaign's efforts to overturn the election results were not simply a matter of political rhetoric, but were instead a serious attempt to subvert the will of the voters.

Former Trump campaign lawyer Jenna Ellis pleaded guilty Tuesday in the Georgia election subversion case and will cooperate with Fulton County prosecutors – the third guilty plea in the past week.

At an unscheduled hearing in Atlanta, Ellis pleaded guilty to one count of aiding and abetting false statements, a felony stemming from the election lies that Ellis and other Donald Trump lawyers peddled to Georgia lawmakers in December 2020.

She was sentenced to five years of probation and ordered to pay $5,000 in restitution.

Ellis delivered a tearful statement to the judge Tuesday while pleading guilty, disavowing her participation in Trump’s unprecedented attempts to overturn the 2020 election.
